Student Perspectives on Using Open Educational Resources

Open educational resources (OER) have gained significant popularity in recent years as a way to provide free and accessible learning materials for students. As an alternative to traditional textbooks, these open resources offer a range of benefits for students. To gather some insights into the student perspective on using OER, I interviewed several students from different educational backgrounds.

One of the main advantages highlighted by the students was the cost-saving aspect. Traditional textbooks can be prohibitively expensive, often costing hundreds of dollars per semester. This financial burden can place additional stress on already tight student budgets. In contrast, OER are freely available online, allowing students to access quality learning materials without breaking the bank.

Moreover, many students appreciated the flexibility that OER provided. With traditional textbooks, it is challenging to make updates or revisions once they are published. However, OER can be constantly updated and improved based on feedback from educators and learners alike.
